Overview

Culinary Artistas is looking for an enthusiastic, adaptable, and responsible Assistant Culinary or Program Educator to help deliver fun, safe, and inspiring programming for campers. Our camps serve up to 26 kids, ages 4–10, and are designed to spark curiosity, inspire young chefs, and connect children to cooking, culture, and each other through hands-on experiences.

JOB DESCRIPTION

For San Francisco Camps

  • Location: Ghirardelli Square (851 Beach Street, San Francisco)
  • Shifts: June 8 – August 28, 2026; Monday–Friday, 8:00/8:30 am – 3:30/4:00 pm
  • Duration & Availability: Must be available at least 10 weeks (full summer availability is preferred); you will be assigned 6–8 weeks

For East Bay Camps

  • Location: Albany Community Center and Piedmont Community Center
  • Shifts: June 8 – August 7, 2026; Monday–Friday, 12:00 – 4:30/5:00 pm
  • Duration & Availability: Must be available for full duration; you will be assigned 4–8 weeks

Assistant Program Educator Responsibilities

  • Assist Lead Program Educator with camp flow, transitions, outdoor activities, STEAM projects, and family communication
  • Set up and maintain activity centers (art center, build center, and game center)
  • Escort and supervise campers during arrival time and transitions
  • Lead daily icebreaker games and stretching activities during circle time
  • Support cooking activities by leading an assigned team of campers (grouped by age)
  • Assist with STEM projects and outdoor activities
  • Manage center-based activities and quiet time
  • Lead storytime and sharing circles
  • Supervise up to 26 campers (with support as needed) while the Lead Educator takes a 30-minute break.
  • Support camp transitions and maintain safety protocols
  • Assist with student sign-in/out procedures
  • Help explain and supervise camper jobs (dishwashing, drying, etc.)

Assistant Culinary Educator Responsibilities

  • Assist Lead Culinary Educator all culinary instruction, kitchen prep, and kitchen cleanup activities
  • Assist with mise en place for daily brunch and lunch preparation
  • Support cooking activities by leading an assigned team of campers  (grouped by age)
  • Escort campers between activities as needed
  • Assist with kitchen setup and cleanup procedures
  • Support food service during meals
  • Prepare afternoon snacks and desserts
  • Monitor and maintain kitchen safety standards
  • Help supervise camper kitchen jobs
  • Support dish washing and cleaning procedures
  • Assist with kitchen inventory and organization

Skills + Experience Required

  • 1+ year experience working with children
  • Comfort managing groups of children age 4-10 (up to 26 kids)
  • Ability to guide and delegate to teenage counselors-in-training and interns
  • Background in art, science, or early childhood education preferred
  • Ability to lead group activities and maintain engagement
  • Basic culinary knowledge and kitchen safety awareness
  • Exposure to food preparation and kitchen operations
  • Basic understanding of proper food handling and sanitation practices
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace
  • Must complete Live Scan background check (reimbursed)
  • COVID-19 vaccination required

Pay 

Starting at $22-$26 per hour, depending on role and experience.
