JOB DESCRIPTION

Culinary Artistas is looking for passionate, reliable individuals to join our Apprenticeship Program and teach after-school cooking classes across San Francisco. Whether you're a former food industry pro, a self-taught cook, or an aspiring educator—this is a paid opportunity to grow your skills and inspire the next generation of chefs.

You’ll lead engaging, hands-on lessons for kids and teens (ages 3–17), focusing on food prep, kitchen safety, nutrition, and creativity. Classes run weekdays between 2:00–6:00 PM; each is 1–2 hours long with 30 minutes for setup and cleanup. We ask for a minimum of 2 days/week, with the option to teach up to 5. Reliable transportation is required.

At Culinary Artistas, we’re more than just a cooking school—we’re a vibrant community that celebrates food, creativity, and connection. If you're ready to inspire the next generation of chefs, apply today!

What You’ll Get

  • Weekly training sessions with your cohort and expert guest speakers covering topics  from agriculture to business.
  • Hands-on experience teaching and designing your own kid-friendly dishes
  • One-on-one professional development support
  • Opportunities to help at camps, field trips, and private events
  • A pathway to a paid Culinary Educator role after graduation

What You’ll Do

  • Teach fun, safe, and engaging after-school cooking classes at schools across San Francisco
  • Follow our “intuitive cooking” approach to guide students through food prep, kitchen safety, and healthy eating
  • Lead interactive lessons using hands-on, visual, and auditory techniques to keep kids actively engaged
  • Adapt to a range of age groups (3–14) with patience, warmth, and clear instruction
  • Foster creativity, teamwork, and confidence in the kitchen through age-appropriate skills and activities
  • Create a welcoming, inclusive, and clean kitchen classroom where all kids feel valued
  • Facilitate thoughtful discussions that help students connect what they learn in class to their lives at home
  • Set up and clean up each class session (30 minutes on each side)
  • Deliver a positive, holistic, and memorable experience every time—showing up with reliability, enthusiasm, and care
  • Occasionally support field trips, day camps, or weekend events (optional)
  • Possibly assist with adult cooking classes or kids' birthday parties (optional, evenings/weekends)

What We’re Looking For

  • Passion for food and a love for teaching kid
  • We welcome self taught cooks, educators in other disciplines, teachers, college education majors, and those who are excited to enter the culinary space
  • Experience with kids or kitchens is a plus, but not required—we value attitude over credentials
  • Strong communication and classroom management skills
  • Dependable, proactive, and team-oriented
  • Comfortable working with ages 3–14
  • Familiar with Google Docs, Slides, Chat, and Drive
  • Able to travel around SF for weekly teaching
  • Must be vaccinated + boosted for COVID-19 and complete a Live Scan background check (we’ll reimburse you)
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification is a plus
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.

Time Commitment

  • Training: typically Thursdays, 3:30–5:30 PM (Aug–Sept)
  • Program: Runs Sept 2025 – June 2026 (aligned with the school year)
  • Weekly Hours: 2.5–15 hours/week depending on availability
  • Must commit to the full school year. Time off follows school closures.
  • Opportunity to be promoted to part-time a Culinary Educator role upon graduation

Pay

$24-$26 per hour, depending on experience. Plus weekly travel reimbursement.
